Jerry Coons Jr. takes a 115-point lead into the November 8 "Copper World Classic" at Phoenix , Ariz. , the next outing for the USAC National Midget Series. Coons is seeking a second consecutive title.
Coons failed to qualify for Saturday's "4-Crown Nationals" feature at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg , Ohio , but used a provisional starting spot and came from the back to third before retiring from the 25-lap race in the closing laps. He was officially listed 19 th in the race finish.
